Katie and her team greatly enjoy working what a diverse range of people. Over time we have compiled a list of ways clients can successfully buy a home. Here are some simple
“rules” that you can use when looking for a home that will ensure you do so in a timely manner.
Choose a Real Estate Agent
This is the most simple and straightforward tip we suggest when you are preparing to buy a home. Feel free to search for several agents to work with the one you are most comfortable with. Make sure you tell every agent that you are in the interview stage when you are talking with them. We suggest you only interview agents that work for different companies. You don’t want to violate intraoffice politics and make purchasing a home more difficult than it needs to
Understand Agents Work on Commission
The majority of real estate agents are paid on a commission, which means that until a transaction closes, they do not get paid. Because of this, real estate agents are highly motivated to do a great job for you. If an agent works purely on salary you may not want to hire them as they may not be as helpful to you as one who works on commission.
Make Your Expectations Known
Communication is key between you and your real estate agent. Make sure your agent knows what you expect of them when showing homes, talking on the phone, and providing any other service. Do you prefer text messages? Emails? Or perhaps even a phone call? Please let them know so you can avoid being displeased. Make sure you set realistic goals and time frames with your agent and always ask them for feedback.
Be Ready to Buy
If you are not ready to buy a home then you do not a real estate agent. You can visit open houses by yourself, search online, and you won’t waste an agent’s time. Be honest with your agent if you are not ready to purchase a home, but if you are serious, then make sure you are able to spend days touring homes. To truly be prepared to buy, bring your checkbook when visiting homes to put down “earnest money.”
With respect and courtesy on both sides, you and your agent can have a successful relationship and smoothly navigate the process of buying a home. Contact The Katie McNeill Team today and begin the search for your dream home!
