When making a large purchase in life, rarely do we just look at the first option we see and make the decision right there. The same should obviously apply to when you are purchasing a home or even a first time home buyer. Fortunately for us today, we have a greater access to technology than ever before. The amount of homes you “see” can be a lot larger than what you could back in 1995 (and it’s a good thing!).
When you start the process of looking for a new home, looking online is a great start. It helps you narrow down what you are or are not looking for. Looking at 50 in a day is fine, but make sure to narrow that down when looking for visits with your realtor. Making a visit to three or five houses in a day is normal. If you do not find the right one for you, go back and start it all over, do not feel defeated!
Another aspect of the process to take into consideration is that most realtors are going to take the time to get to know you better and what your preferences are in a home, and can help you find those listings that maybe haven’t hit the internet yet. While putting your trust into someone new (or not new) can be anxiety-inducing, if the realtor is good at what they do, they will show you their perfect listings!
It is also important to look into getting pre-approved before looking for a home, because if you do find a home you love this will help you speed up the offer process. Finding a proper mortgage company also will go a long way to lock in your interest rate. If you need help finding more information on this, we would be more than happy to assist you!
Do not feel pressured. While you may have friends or family who only checks out a few homes before finding their fit, you may take much longer, it’s okay! No experience is cookie cutter when looking for a new home, and an experienced realtor will help you more than you could know!
